Cleaning Pumps

Hey everyone...hope all is well, it's been a while. I would post some tank pics (celebrating 1 year soon) but it's experiencing an algae attack at the moment. Doing a major water change tomorrow.

Back to the reason for my post.....my Blueline Velocity pump just doesn't have the flow it used to. I took the pump off and ran water through it, but didn't help. I was thinking of trying to take it apart this weekend. Has anyone done this without having problems after it's reassembled?

Please say yes

not with that specific pump. But I've taken apart all of my pumps and cleaned them. when they get really bad, and I can't get the gunk off, I'll soak some parts in vinegar over night. Works like a charm!

Those blueline pumps have a circular impeller with fairly small exit ports. I've taken mine apart and found everything from small pieces of rock, carbon, even shells in there. One port clogging up really cuts back on output. Put it back together the way it came apart and you should have no trouble.

If you want, try runnig vinagerand a little water threw it for a little while and let it soak then run it again and see if it is better. But taking it apart is a better ideal!Just becarefull of any O-ring,seals and/or gaskets,if any!
