Question

Can this be done?

My wife and I are getting a 190 gal glass reef ready tank, but because it will be used as a room divider, both sides and one end will be exposed, we were wondering about putting the overflow in the center of the tank...Is this possible?...or would it compromise the integrety of the tank....

That does work but you just won't be able to see through the tank in the middle. It would probably work very well too. There is a LFS in my area that has large square reef tank that you can walk around all four sides and it's over flow is in the center. I love watching their Flame Hawk travel all the way around it.

Oh and welcome to TRT!

Thanks for the insight...I appreciate that, the full around view was what I was hoping for just wasn't sure if the tank would implode or not....thanks

Is the bottom tempered? Given the format you want, I would consider a coast to coast over flow on the end that isnt exposed

So you would suggest put an overflow on the end that is covered...ok,Yes I think the bottom is tempered, but you know I never ask...wow, I guess I should've thought of that...and if it isn't tempered it can be drilled?..Is that how it works or vice aversa?

If its tempered you can't drill it
Anytime you go for a non standard setup , esp large, acrylic is so much easier to work with, esp if you need to design a custom circulation setup

I wanted to go with acrylic but my wife is fearful of acrylic...I have tried to tell her of the advantages but she keeps hearing about it scratches and so forth...so we agree upon a glass tank with a overflow on one end now...LOL

Yeah Me too.... The guy that is building it says that it will take about 3 weeks and with the overflow in the middle maybe even longer...why?...I don't know, if the guy wasn't doing it for a great price...Iwould move on to someone else...so cross your fingers..
