Bulkhead glue
Hi,
I am ready to start plumbing my tank. All the holes are drilled and the bulkheads are in place. I am aware that there are two kinds of PVC glue, the one in the purple cans for regular PVC and the one in the orange cans for CPVC. The bulkheads are black and my pipe will be regular PVC. Can I use regular purple can PVC glue on the black bulkheads??? Thanks!

my can is black. i got them together in a two pack. one can primer (purple), one can cement (black).
i do have an orange can CPVC for when i had to repair my hot water line, so most of our colours match.

Thanks Geoff and Casey.
Just went to www.Oatey.com The black can is "medium" and can be used in a little larger applications, the gold is the "regular" version of the black...

I am at the same point right now contemplating the use of silicone on the bulkheads and all of the pvc fittings to/from pump ect. Is there a problem with this? Is it not able to hold pressure or keep the tube aligned ,or is there another reason I have over-looked. Thank your for your help.

The rubber gasket provides a seal for bulkheads. They shouldn't need silicone. And all this talk of PVC cement with bulkheads makes me wonder too. Every time I've glued pipe to bulkheads I've regretted it. I prefer using threaded fittings, easier to get off if need be. The only place I use slip on bulkhead is inside the tank, like for Durso's that don't get glued, just press fit.

Roger,
Do you mean that you regretted it because they have leaked??? Now you are making me nervous!

that is funny. i have gone the other way around lately.
i do however make sure all of my fitting that connect on the outside of the bulkheads are threaded. that way if anything major were to happen i can plug the bulkhead from the inside and go to fixin.
i find it difficult to keep a threaded connection from leaking. it may just be my skill with the teflon tape, but i am apparantly incapable of doing it reliably.
