Beckett Mod
well like most of you i have a very limited amount of space under my tank and wanted a much taller beckett...here is what i did.....my diy beckett uses a 6" acrylic tube up to the collection cup, and the beckett unit was butted pretty much against the top....I then added two 90 degree bends ( 45 would be better if you have) and brought the pipe to the back of my tank where i have about 6" between the wall and tank..i then ran the beckett all the way up to the top of my tank.......so the beckett pipe is now 58"+ tall where as the collection cup etc, is only 26" tall ...this obviously has made it so the pump ( mag 18) has a lot more work to do to pump the water that high, but what i have found is that the quality of skimmate that gets pulled out is much better , even though there is reduced pressure....contact time with the water is greatly increased ..therefore better skimmate.....basically if you have the room behind your tank i would recommend this mod...i have the air intake on the beckett close to the edge so i can adjust as necessary....
