aquascaping tips

Whats the best way to aquascape? Do I want to "glue" the LR together into a couple larger formations that I can take out of the tank if nesesary? Do I want to just "glue" it all together? Do I just want to set the rock in the tank in a pile?

I have always just set the rock in the tank but I have always had issues with it staying out once I put it there.

I'm thinking of going with a DSB with a LR stand of some sort.

I like the "several big pieces hooked together" way of doing it. I cut a few pieces of 2 inch pvc about 1/2 taller than the sandbed is deep, and place the base of the rocks on these stands. I drill 5/16" holes in those rocks with a masonary bit and a cordless drill, and use small pieces of plastic coat hangers as dowels to hook the rocks together.

The drawback is you can't lift out several pieces at once like you could if you used epoxy. OTOH thats the advantage as well

For me it was best not to glue them, I hare rearenged my rock a few times since this summer, so I could not do this if they were glued. Sometimes is good to move rocks around for cleanup, or when territorial fish hold a territory and harras new additions.
