AquaC Type Skimmers DIY??

I am new to reef keeping and I was thinking about building a diy skimmer. I have been doing some research on skimmer types. I have found plans for many types, but have not found any that try to replicate the ones by AquaC. I was thinking about the EV-180/240. I was wondering if anyone has tried this, or if not, the why no. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Bob

Welcome to TRT!!!

i looked at the pdf for the EV-240. it does not look much different than any other box style skimmer. most beckett injected skimmers use the box style. if this skimmer interests you then i would go with one of the many DIY beckett style skimmers.

what size tank are you going to put it on?

I agree that the style is very similar to some of the Beckett style skimmers but is does have some differences. First is lacks the injection tower. The manufacturer also claims that it is quiter and doesn't require a high pressure pump like the Beckett's. I'm planning on settimg up a 90-180 gal. reef., that I would be putting this on.

I think the reason it is quieter is because it uses a venturi style injector instead of a Beckett or eductor injector. both of which are wicked loud. this is also why i think it is a venturi style, the others require pressure rated pumps.

all a skimmer needs to do is produce foam. what it looks like or how it is driven is irrelevent.

I agree, as long as it isn't so loud the wife won't let it in the house and doesn't cause a blackout when turned on.
