Show off a little?! Looks like your showing off a lot! Very nice skimmer. Interesting how you've got the beckett elevated above the body. What's the idea behind that. Seems I saw somebody mod their's like that but can't remember why?

heh heh
I build them that way to increase contact time - Barr aquatics does it too. On short skimmers it helps out this is only 23" tall to the top of the screws.

Are you using weld on 4 as a solvent cement for the body? Some people say that acetone will work for joining acrylic if the joints are perfect. I am planning on builing a similiar skimmer and a huge sump. I am trying to find the best adhesive to build it with.
Also, what are you using to cut the acrylic so nicely.

Another good reason for having the beckett up higher like that is it reduces backpressure on the nozzle and allows it to draw in more air. They say that your beckett is supposed to be above the water level in your skimmer.

thanks - I use #4.
I have a delta UNI Saw with a Freud blade for cutting down the sheet and finish up on the router. It does help to have "baby smooth edges" and all pieces line up with no gaps in the seams.

Absulutely awesome looking!!! What size gph pump would you suggest for one this size with the duals?
For all you skimmer builders, how do you determine what sive skimmer will handle how much tank?

http://www.hawkfish.org/snailman/skimmer101.htm this will help in skimmer design.
Unfortunatly - the cost of acrylic is still going up month by month - about 3 months ago I could buy a sheet of 1/2" for $150, now it's $195
For a dual beckett but in a shorter model a Iwaki 70 would still be reconmend as the idea pump or any other pressure pump in this range.
