I would think that doing both would be a bad idea since the brace adds significant strength to the tank and keeps it from bowing out and failing. As for the plastic rim around the tank, I would also be very hesitant to do that for the same reasons. If all else fails, just call All Glass and ask their customer service.

A question to ask would be could you take off the center brace and convert it to Euro bracing???

it could be done. this obviously has to be done when the tank is empty.
