Adding Baffles to Sump

I'm constructing a sump with an all glass aquarium. I wish to "fasten" accrylic baffles within the sump.

Will silicone work? What brand/type would you recommend?

Thanks!

I don't think silicone will work with acrylic, although I am doing the same with a 20L, but using plastic.....

Plastic or glass should work fine

I've been scoping out the TMAS forums for a few weeks. I like it. There are a lot of nice/helpful people on there.

As for the baffles, I want to stay away from glass.

What type of plastic would one use?

if you want to you can use acrylic. i would say no less than 1/4".
i always want to see people use glass to glass when possible. if you have to go to acrylic then make sure you use a good aquarium silicone, you can find it at walmart even.

the only reason that you can use acrylic baffles in a glass sump is that there is equal pressure on each side of the baffle. silicone and acrylic really dont bond very well.

sillycone does not stick to acrylic at all. you can use it as baffles for the reason RobinsonFam1 said. what you want to do is use the sillycone as a groove for the acrylic sheet to fit into. place the acrylic sheet where you want it, then goop the silly cone all around it. the sillycone will adhere very well to the glass. when the sillycone is fully cured you will be able to remove the acrylic sheet without much difficulty, why would you want to, do not know, but if you wanted to change the heights of the baffles you can.

But silicone does stick to plastic, you can get plastic at almost all the same places you can buy acrylic. Unless you have it already, just buy plastic. and use the wal-mart silicone, its cheap under $3 a tube actualy I might have some for you I will throw in with your SD sand...

Clear or colored plastic...all works the same, get what you like

BUT on a side note, the clear plastic and color plastic will "dry" out over time, and get brown'ish and be easly cracked. this wont happen for years, but thats why a lot go with acrylic over plastic/plexi

It will most likely be clear.
