6x32 watt kit

I want to install this kit into my wooden top.The ballests has very short cables from the lights it will fit in my top ,however i dont know if this would cause some damage down the line . If there is a way to get them installed inside the top safely i would like to know . They would sit about 4 inches off the water line. Nothing is installed yet, i would like to get started as soon as possible. Any useful ideas on how not to extend the cables of the ballests?

Sorry, no clue. I would have some concern as to both the moisture effecting the ballast as well as the ballast adding to heat buildup inside the hood. I have never mounted a ballast inside a hood and so I cannot tell you for sure if it is do-able or not. sometimes the DIY forumr does not get checked much. I generally post in the equip forum or even just the general reef forum jsut so more people will be exposed to it.

solder in new wire? Pretty easy to extend cables with some good wire and heat wrap to keep out any moisture.

Extensions are pretty easy after the nerve to snip the first wire is accomplished... but I would like to see pics so i can (we can) get a better feel for what you need.

I would yank the ends off and put water proof endcaps on... And then extend the wires then.

I was picturing the thick rubberized cables and endcaps of a retrofit kit. That looks like a 32wx3 kit to me unless you are only showing a pic of half of the equipment

I suppose it was! I think they sell waterproof endcaps at most drygoods sites, Dr. F&S, Reefgeek aquacave etc. Just poke around a little.

I just mount my ballasts on top of my hood, so my 3' wires are not a problem.
