10 gallon sump/fuge

I found out that my cheesy amiricle sump was leaking so it was time to head to the hardware store and whip something up. I'm planning for a fuge/sump to make a home for my mantis.

The idea is that the 1" drain will go into the 2" coupling which is siliconed down. Skimmer hangs onto the inside of the main fuge area(everything in the fuge can hack a couple of microbubbles). Bubble trap consisting of three panes of 8x10 glass and into the return area.

fixing a leaky acrylic sump is pretty easy to do if you wanted to. if you are looking for an excuse to make something than i am all for that.

is the pic what you have now, or what you are thinking?

your thinking is fine, and will work, but i really think a fuge would be useless in this situation. i do not think it would be big enough to do any real good. i actually think fuges do not do any real good anyway.

a 10g tank is just to small for all of your ideas.

Yeah, the ten gallon is pretty tight. While it is probably too small for serious nutriant export, its big enough to let my little gonodactylus have a home with a substrate and a couple chunks of live rock, and that's more important than export.

As a side note... It looks like you have an aqua clear skimmer. I have had one almost identical to that one for a year or so and never hooked it up. WHat type of pump do you have hooked on and is the skimmer any good?

Thanks, johnny

Its actually a pacific coast imports skimmer with a huge rio needlewheel. Its working well so far, I think anything will skim with a big enough pump...

Did you get your glass polished? If not be carefull handling it. If its not polished you may want to lay a bead of silicon across the top edge of each baffle. I built a sump one time that didnt have polished glass in it. About the 3rd time I reached in it I found out why you might need it. Luckily the bone in my finger finally stopped the cut
