neither...JMO... I prefer to buy lenses in proper groupings. 28-70 and 70-210 are good groupings. Toss in a 105mm Macro and call it good

so... I already have a 28-80 and a 70-300. Is that 105 macro with VR a winner? that is the one I'm leaning towards

sorry one of those was supposed to be this one... maybe that's the reason for the confusion!

I would go with the 105. The 2.8 makes the deal for me.

I did some quick research on the VR technology, and it seems really cool...i did find out that my 18-55 does not have it. I think that if I was getting a macro lens, I would make sure that it had VR.

Definitely worth getting the VR... I need a tripod to steady mine when shooting macro

the sending back did not work out... now I have to save the money... but the two lenses I ended up with are needed in the long run anyways.

Who did you purchase through? I would like to know for future reference. Typically I have used onecall.com, B&H Photo, etc. when not purchasing locally.

it was a gift from 1wayphoto.com

I don't know of any local stores other than ritz which around here left so much to be desired... about like a petsmart of camera as far as I am concerned, at least locally.

I can not comment for SC. but I can say I found a camera shop in NC (around Charlotte that was "pretty OK". My wife's sister lives in Mint Hill, NC. Now if I could recall the name I would give you a referral. I picked up a nice Manfrotto tripod about two years ago while I was in town.
