I have a tank similar to your and was wondering whether it would be okay to cut off the top strip of black plastic? What do you think?

Great looking tank btw.

no. please do not do so. All Glass spicifically installs those strips in tanks i believe over 40 gallons to prevent bulging of the glass and possible cracking/ leaking.
