The Canon power shots are nice little cameras and well capable of producing good reef tank pictures. I'm sure we can get some cool pics from it...

Do you have the owners manual for the camera?

I know what the specs of the camera are but I don't know how to do it, I never used a power shot before... Hence the "owners manual" question. But heres a few things to try first... I would shoot your up close shots with your "Shooting mode" at auto. Also set the camera to Macro mode. Make sure your ISO is set to 400.

YES, I do have the Owners manual for the camera. I guess imma have to read the little bible to get better aquainted with this camera. I was trying to avoid reading the mini bible. looks like i have no choice. But I will try the Macro Mode and the ISO on 400.

Make sure you read how close the camera is capable of taking pictures too. I usually bracket my shots. I end up with at least 3 of each angle of every subject I am shooting.

Focus range of the Canon PowerShot SD100:
• Normal: 47 cm - Infinity (18.5 in - Infinity)
• Macro wide: 10 - 47 cm (3.9 - 18.5 in)
• Macro tele: 27 - 47 cm (10.6 - 18.5 in)

Figuring you are shooting in tele mode, back off to 12" just to be safe. Mont that baby on a tripod and use a cable release. If you don't have a cable release, us the self timer on the tripod. If you are getting just a small amount of the subject in focus you my want to change your f-stop to a higher number to give yourself a wider dof. Make sure you take your pic straight through the glass. don't shoot in an angle or it can blur/distort your images also. You could also hold the lense up against the tank to help steady if your subject is at least 10.6" away.

Just a quick Q. Are you looking at the quality on the LCD display or on your computer? I have a mavica cd-1000 and the LCD is really useless because it doenst show the ACTUAL quality. Its kinda icky colored and such. But i can get pretty close (5 inches from glass) to take pics in my tank

YES!!
Thank you All.
I've only had this camera for a 2 months and have alot to learn about it.
GUMHEAD, i dont exactly know what those specs are but i'll read the manual and work witht the numbers you provided. And yes i was shooting at a close range up on the glass and in an angle. Everything you all have provided has been helpful. More suggestions would be good.
