Need Advice on a good camera

I'm thinking of picking up a new digital camera and was wondering if anyone had some advice as to what would be a good brand/model to pick up for taking tank shots.

Since we seem to be having a battle here: Pentax istD

Are you looking for digital SLR or something more point and shoot?

The only digital SLR I have had is the pentax.

Now film SLR I've had canon and pentax. Pentax was alway much more friendly to use. Could just be me. I did a lot of research before deciding on the Pentax ist D.

Well, I have a Rebel XT, I like it a lot. The XTi is nice because of its self cleaning sensor. Though I don't have one, soon enough i will, the Canon 100mm has put out some awesome shots of aquariums. If you can afford it you may want to skip the kit lens (not very good) and buy just the body with either the 100mm(if your doing mainly tank shots) or something like a 28-135 IS (the image stabilization is very nice, I have a lense with it) for a good "all around lense"

Couldnt agree more. I've got the XTi with the kit lens, and it's "ok", at best. I'll be investing in a better lens in the coming months. But the camera itself is awesome.

I recently picked up a Pentax Optio W30 that can actually get underwater shots. Took it to Hawaii for 2 weeks and was blown away. The W30 actually can be set for an ISO of 3200. Great quality. I will be posting my pics from Hawaii this weekend.

Have to agree with tablet and crvz. I bought my wife an XTi for her birthday. The 28-135 IS is a great lens. If you have the $$$ XTi is (IMHO) the way to go.

ps. There are several reputable dealers on Ebay that will sell body only (without the kit lens). Get a BIG flash card because some of my pix have worked out to 4.5 mb or larger. Of course any 10.1 megapixel camera will generate massive files.

Agreed on the BIG memory card, I wouldn't go below 1GB. Thats what I've got an I still think I need another for a backup.
