Thumbs up

DigiCam

Under 200 is getting close to non existant for a good camera. I would have to reccomend an Olympus Stylus 410 which you should be able to find around 230.00-250.00. It is 4 MegaPixel which is nothing to laugh at. Tou will be able to create a nice 8x10 with it.

Hope this helps,
Chris

It sounds like you want to take some macro pics of your tank. I've heard lots of reefers using Nikon Coolpix, Fuji Finepix, Canon PowerShot, Olympus Camedia and Sony Cyber-Shots.

You might want to look for something that has more optical zoom rather than digital. That will deffinately help for taking pictures of other stuff. You're not going to get instantaious pics using a pocket or Point & Shoot digital camera. So be prepared to experience shutter lag from the time you push the button to the time the camera actually takes the picture and writes it to memory. Moving fish don't want to cooperate when taking pictures.

Hope that helps.

Best buys for digital cameras! - October 27, 2004
It’s really confusing when you look at ads for digital cameras because they’re all over the board in price. So, what do you need? Well, you don’t need a 5 or 6 megapixel camera. Ads you see today will scream about how great these cameras are. But the Financial Times of London reports that you don’t need one of these unless you are involved in industrial or art displays. In fact, you will get a better picture if you avoid the most expensive digital cameras and stick with a 2-megapixel model. Consumer Reports recently surveyed these cameras and came up with two “Best Buys.” They are the Nikon Coolpix 2200, which costs $125, and the Canon PowerShot A60, which costs $137. In the 3-megapixel category, Consumer Reports rated Fujifilm’s FinePix A330, which costs $129. There are many other cameras listed in the survey, but these were the best. Pay close attention to the battery life, as well. Some cameras run out of power after 25 shots while others take more than 300 on one charge.

I would recomend, that if you want to take really good pics of your tank or even for everday use but don't want to spend a lot of money, that you get a canon dig cam, i have a powershot a40. Ya it is a bit outdated in todays world but it takes awsome pics. I would not recomend a kodak, i got a kodak before my canon, took about 20 pics with it and let me tell you they looked horrible. My canon powershot take pics that are 10x better in my opinion. In fact if anyone is interested i am planning on upgrading to a new dig cam to get in to astrophotography so I will be selling my powershot a40. pm me or email me if you are at all interested and i can give you all the details.
