not sure why that did not work. im trying to hot link a picture rather then using thumb nails. i noticed when i use thumb nails i have to go back and delete others to up load new ones. any help

Chris, you need to host the images instead of attach them to the thread. Where you choose to host images is up to you, common options are the gallery here at TRT (http://www.thereeftank.com/gallery/) or a third party such as www.photobucket.com. Once you upload the image to one of those locations, you copy either the "direct link" or the link with the "[ img ]" tags around it (the "BB image code" here at TRT is a thumbnailed image that links to the full size, but I prefer to just use the direct link). If you get the direct link, type the following into the thread, minus the spaces;

[ img ] directlink [ /img]

That's how you hyperlink an image.
