How can I get clear photos with my Canon S45?

So I really have the need to get some good clear closeup pics of stuff in my tank with my camera. My camera is a Canon S45 small compact deal. I'm no photography pro by any means but I know a little bit. I'm having a lot of trouble getting it to focus through the acrylic on my tank. I see so many good pics on here and I'm wondering if those are all $1000+ cameras. I've tried using the Macro button and using a couple different modes on the camera but still no luck. Anyone familiar with this camera or one like it that can give me some tips?

most of my pics lately (since august) have been with the Canon SD630 I use no flash and the macro setting. The key is not zooming in while in the macro setting I just take pics in the largest size and use ifran view to crop then resize to post

Are you manually focusing or using autofocus? Do you have a setting dial on the top? What setting are you using?

I don't have a dial on top This is my camera http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Canon...oductDetail.do

I have the camera set to auto setting /auto focus turn the flash off and use the macro button I will say I get better pics of my glass aquarium than the acrylic one but over all these settings work well for me These pics are from the acrylic tank
