funny you say that.
I had a couple of professional photographer friends who came over to teach my how to use my first dslr and macro when I got it a couple of years ago.
Both of them make good money doing what they do.and are obviously good at what they do..but when it came to tank pics...i was seriously disappointed. They werent hardly doing any better than I could at the time with my point and shoot I had somewhat figured out.
Granted they tought me things for sure, but what they taught me was fundamentals that were necessary, but they sucked at taking tank pics. haha
the guy who sold me that first camera used however......he had a broadeer range of experience and was taking sweet macro shots (after cropping) from down the hall 20 feet away with a several thousand dollar telephoto kens he brought over....
