Actually I made two mistakes one was the focal length of of the 70-200 mm lens and the other was that Canon makes 18 lens for under 250$'s.Heres a link.

We take different approach's on this.I would always recomend an slr no matter what a person is considering if for no other reason but to make sure they have considered all the options.Ihave a pair of 25 year old minolta XD-11 bodies and ahd 12 lens in two Holoburton cases. All in fine working order, if I want a status symbol I get those out.The digitals is for simplicity,we take a lap top and a 4x6 printer on vacation with us.If I use a 200iso film the print qualities are just about the same with a slight edge to the Canon

I have the Canon S5-IS and I love it. I also have the Raynox 150 and 250 macro lenses which I love as well. I've got plenty of sample reef pics I can show you if you are still trying to make up your mind.

I'm not sure what you decided, but I just bought the G-9 and LOVE it! Hope it all works out well for you whatever you decide. Kiki
