Question

Digital SLR

I'm looking to upgrade my camera, a 2.1 MP Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S50. The camera has served me well for the last 5 years, but now I'm getting frustrated with it's limitations. Pictures look great on the screen, but are terribly blurred when viewed on the computer. The autofocus drives me nuts, it's even worse in low light conditions.

I've started to get into digiscoping and astrophotograpy, and my camera just isn't quite getting the pictures I'd like to get. The BEST thing about the camera I have now is that the zoom is internal so the lens doesn't move, which is very important to me for digiscoping and hooking up the camera to my telescope.

So, I'm thinking about digital SLRs that won't break the bank too much. I'm looking for something that I can manually control as much as possible, but something my wife can use in auto mode as well. I'd like to be able to take rapid fire shots when taking pictures of the fish tank or birds at the feeder.

So far, I've been looking at the 300D and the 10D from Canon, the Nikon D70 (starting to get out of my price range) and the Olympus E-10 and E-20.

What is considered to be a good entry level digital SLR?

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

The Canon 300D rebel and the Nikon D70 are both great cameras. They both have full manual and fully automatic modes.

I have a Nikon D100, I love Nikon and have always used them. Both Canon and Nikon are used by professional so the choice is up to you. Canon can be a little lower in price for lenses and such...

I just got the 300D Rebel and love it. I can even take good pics with my limited skills. The auto focus is incredible. Now I just have to save up for more lenses .
