Difference Between

What's the difference between(other than the f-stops)the Canon 100mm f/2.8 and the Canon 100mm f/2.0. Which would you recommend if you have had experience with either. Or would you reccomend a Sigma 105mm f/2.8 lense. They would be for a Rebel XT.

It would be great to see some example pictures too.

A post a post a post!!!!!

haha, ok I'm silly right now. Personally I have a Rebel XT and I have the Canon 100mm f/2.8. You may be able to save some money with the Sigma, but I would say that if money isn't an issue then go with the Canon lense for the Canon camera. These are strictly my opinions! You can get one on Amazon.com for under $500 now. I have never had the pleasure of using a 2.0 so I can't give you a comparison.
There is also a 180mm macro (at least I think that's what it is). I can do some research if you'd like. To see some of my macro pics, just click on the link in my sig.

ohhh yeah, but man that's an impressive lense!!!

So what lenses do you currently have with your Rebel? I'm at work so I can't say for sure what I have, other than the stock kit lense and a zoom, er, 70-300 I think is what it is.

just have the kit lense right now, but the funny thing is, i'm also looking at the 70-300mm Canon lense. How do you like it? I also want the 100mm f/2.8 Macro, hints the original question.

The f-number rating that you find on a lense is the ratio between the main focal element (or aperture) and the focal length.

The lower the number the brighter the lens; and usually a lot more expensive than the dimmer lense.

I recommend the Canon L lenses, or the other Canons that are at least around the $400 mark (price is a direct correlation to the quality); expensive but worth it.

Ok I'm up, last night of 12 hours, whew!
To confirm I do have the 2.8 macro, then my zoom is the Canon 75-300. From what I've read I guess this is a cheaper lense than the 70-300, but I'm very happy with it. If you'd like to see examples then just click on the link in my sig, and go to the bottom of that page and click on "index" and then open the album called "our outdoor critters". These pics are taken with my zoom and most are taken through glass, so they're not perfectly crystal clear. I also tend to shake a bit and when I'm fully zoomed, well you know how it goes. Some of the best examples are:

page 1: sept2downyatcabin (I was standing 5 feet from him when I took this shot)
page 1: phoebe june 30 (3 pics)
page 1: hen hummer june 29
page 2: great chipping sparrow
page 2: great crested flycatcher (no glass between me and the bird)
page 2: chipping sparrow

The bear pics were taken at night and I should have used manual focus not auto, but it's pretty hard to focus on a black bear when it's almost dark out! lol!
My kit lense is the 28-90mm.

Next on my wish list is the super wide angle lense...
