Anyone using a dSLR camera

I just got a Canon DSLR - the 300D. I'm trying to do some closeup pics of the tank, but am not able to get it to focus close enough to get the detail I want. I'm wondering if a 2x converter would fix this glitch? Also, anyone use a macro lens flash? Good / bad / comments?

If you aren't using a 2x converter, how are people getting the detail on closeups? How far away are you from your subject? Are you just taking the picture into something like PS and working with it in there?

Thanks,
Chris

I also have the 300d. I've tried the converter and wasn't please at all with the results. You really need a good 1:1 macro lens.

I just got the 350D (Rebel XT) yesterday. Can't wait to experiment.

I've got a Nikon D70. I just use a 70-300 zoom lens and sit back about 8' with my tripod.

I just ordered the 70-300 for my D70. I like your suggestion.

You could easily pay more for a good lens than you would for the camera body...which really sucks because there's about 3 different lenses I still want to get and one of them is a good size down payment on a new car.

Digital P&S cameras like the Canon G series and the Nikon Coolpix series have a pretty decent macro function, Sony's not that bad either. I used my Sony a lot in macro mode for taking tank pictures before I got the DSLR. The zoom lens lets me do the same thing from a farther distance.

If you feel like experimenting with reverse lens imaging or just learning about macro photography in general check out http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...splay.php?f=38 I think you might have to register to view the pictures.

i have the 300d and have shot a lot of aquarium macro, if you dont want to spend a lot of money, there is a vivitar/cosina/phoenix 100mm macro lens(all the same, just rebranded) available at most large camera stores for about $150 or so, its a ver good lens optically, but the build quality is quite cheap, however for macro it works just fine. I would recommend it as an entry lens as it will work way better than extension tubes or diopters which will cost almost as much anyway if you get decent ones. if you want to spend more, there are the 50mm macros from sigma and canon and if you have some extra $ you can go for the 100mm canon macro, which is an EXCELLENT lens both for macro and as a short tele or portrait lens, but its around $500, hope this helps a little

if you use the 350d then shoot in raw and edit in photoshop cs2 you can get the bridge to edit raw or use capture one pro then even with the normal lens you will get great detail
