anyone using a cannon rebel?

So I have one but am having some difficulties focusing. I am not sure if my glass or water has small particles or if my camera is not suited for this. It has a macro setting but does not seem to make a difference. I have not gotten a tripod yet because I have not seen the point yet. If I cant focus well, how is a tripod going to help

Is it that things are blurry or what is the trouble focusing? The auto focus is much easier to use while you get to know the camera. There is also a vision correction dial that is a really small dial on the upper right of the view finder on the XT, I'm not sure if they are elsewhere on the other models. This helps a bunch on manual focusing, but if you put one of the squares in the view finder on a line of the object you are focusing, you should get an "in focus" confirmation beep.

And yes a tripod is a must have IMO.

Outside of that, I need more info

Is it focus, or steadiness? I'm not really seeing how small particles would be the reason for poor focusing. I use a tripod for all coral pictures, but fish don't sit still enough for it to be useful.

canon rebel

I have one and it works great and like another said a tripod is a must have i.m.o.
im guessing auto fucus is not sure what the true object to be focused upon is.....does it constantly jump in and out of focus when aimed at the tank ??

I myself shoot manual most of the time at such short distances..it feels/seems like I get better foreground object focus.....

I also shoot with a Rebel, the tripod is a must if you intend
on capturing precise, sharp images. It does not shoot good in low light
but i have not really found a camera that does.

I have the same problem. Tripod helped. I'm still not happy with the quality. Does anyone have suggestions on a different lenses for close ups. I only have the lens it came with.

i use the film version

however i have found that using the auto focus just plain out sucks. use the manual, it will shoot when it normally wouldnt want to if you had the auto focus on.

and the bigger lens makes a huge difference the one it comes with is a little sad. i think im gonna go get a shower and then develop my film to come back and show you what i can pull off it.
