What is going on here?

I want to know why the following thread was closed. All I did was give the guy the url to our sponsors so he may find some good deals on softies! I better get a good explanation for this or I am gone from this forum!!

P.S. It states in the TRT mission that business can not have commercial posts so where does it say that members of TRT that are not a ventor can not promote a sponsor if they so desire!

i'm curious to know as well. so are we to understand that people cant even ASK where to find things now? nor are we to support our sponsors?

oops. I see the problem now. The thread was closed, but it wasn't intentional. There is absolutely nothing wrong with any posts on that thread, it was just a technical mistake.

apparantly the same isn't true for the thread title "anyone ever ordered from this place"

thread is now gone. jsut posted last night.

just in case yo uaren't in the loop:

member asks about battery powered air pumps that kick on when power is lost.

member posts link to said air pump.

i respond to member "hope this doesnt get closed for being a commercial post" then proceed to give member my positive opinion on such a device, as well as having experience with them, as well as the savings that could be had in the event of a power failure.

member asks how they work.

i give my best explanation.

member agrees and thinks its worth the 10 bucks to save hudnreds of dollars in fish and corals.

now post is gone.

as far as i'm concerned, that was a thread valuable to all members of trt. and if i'm correct thats what trt is here for.

so, if we can no longer give each other advice. can no longer mention a sponsors name. what the heck are we doing here?

i'll beasking myself that question over hte next few days, while i review the changes at trt, and what if anything is my purpose of being here.

i guess now i just wonder how long it will be before THIS post and or thread is deleted too.

fwiw i've seen more posts/threads deleted this week than in all of the past several months combined. and i simplyrefuse to just keep my mouth shut about it any longer.

Bottom line is the policies of this board have not changed. The fact that there have been a recent flurry of commercial posting (and therefore edited threads) has nothing to do with the fact that the board changed hands. This began long before I was even approached about taking over the board.

Stick within the rules that were laid down years ago by Brooke and everything will be fine.

I agree with Jay as more posts have been deleted than I have ever seen in the last two or three months than all the time I have been here which is well---------a very long time!

I also will be evaluating my reason for being here and need to step back and consider my options at this point!

I also would like to thank you gregt for clearing up the matter on the other thread!

Also if I think a rule needs to be challenged than you can bet I will be at the front of the line doing just that!

I think this is a good idea for all of us. I know I've done plenty of that in the last week. I've decided that I'm going to do the best I can to keep this community working towards it's mission. Let me know what you decide.

So what do you think has changed? The Mission Statement has not changed. The Users Agreement has not changed. What do you think has changed that's caused this?
The new owner has been here for exactly seven days today, so you can't blame him.

What do think has been going on to cause all these posts you say to have been deleted?

So that I don't mistakenly misuses my privileges here on TRT, can someone point me to the mission statement and user agreement so that I can re-read it...I am having a hard time distinguishing a commercial post from a non commercial post (is the distinguishing factor who is submitting the post and if there is personal gain by doing so?) Maybe if someone can indicate what causes a thread to get deleted this would help?

Scott, it's very clear and easy to follow. If you are selling something, don't post advertisements for what you are selling. That's pretty much all there is to it. Common sense should be all that is needed.

Easy enough, although I did recently post an ad for a tank I had for sale, was that improper?...If so I apologies.
