Sure it matters. Try going to
www.micorsoft.com (a common misspelling)and see what you get. Its an attempt (successful) to draw traffic from a common mistake. This spelling is a little different but its still nice of him to ask for permission. thegeektank.com, with the r and g being close on the keyboard, would be a potentially bigger mistake than this one. And, as long as he doesn't try to portray it as TRT and makes it clear that it isn't TRT.
As for publishing a "fictional" site, it is trivial. I can mirror TRT very easily and it's trivial. Simply setup a CRON job to pull content from the server, display it as my own. It happens every day with Usenet.
