thank god for trt
so yesterdya i was perusing the big tank archives. i wanted to see more. so i went over to "the board that shall remain nameless" to see some of thier big tank archives. well, i couldn't see pictures without joining. they forced me to join. can you belive that crap!? anyway after joining, i still could not find any big tank archives like we have here at the great and mighty trt.
so i did something i said i would never do. i POSTED a question at "the board that shall remain nameless" and asked where i could find the big tank archives.
three hours later, my post was buried in page three!! and still no reply! now here it is, almost 24 hours later, my post is now buried more than 6 pages deep, and still no reply. not an "i dont know", not an "i think you can find them here", not even so much as a "welcome to the board that shall remain nameless" nothing..
when a person joins trt, they get 5-10 "welcomes" within the first hour of thier first post. we have a community here. one "where everybody knows your name, and thier always glad you came"
i liken the difference to a small midwestern town with a population of a few hundred, versus a big city L.A. or such. i felt like a tourist asking for directions and couldn't even get a simple "go away" or "leave me alone"
anyway, jsut wanted to vent for a moment, and reinforce the fact, that while trt may be smaller, it is certainly far better. imo.
oh and dont worry i'm not setting up the big tank yet. just looking at some plans and designs etc.. i'm gonna go ahed and setup the 75 as a reef, then once i find a new house to either rent or buy, then i'll start on the big tank construction. heck it's been almost 3 months on the 75 alone, and it's nowhere near completion yet (still needs: overflows, pumps, weirs in the sump, more plumbing, rock, lights, and more) so based on that, i'm sure that after moving, it will take upwards of 5 months to do everything needed for the mojo defeater

Well, just so you don't feel left out...
"go away!!!"
"leave me alone!!!"
Just kidding, this is one of the reasons I have stayed with TRT as opposed to posting regularily on RC. I still keep up with what is happening there, and will occasionally post, but it is just too much hassle to do. I am sure Brooke and Jon would like to see TRT grow to that size, but in reality, one of the reasons that TRT does well is it's size as it stands and it's excellent direction afforded by the folks that run and moderate the venue.
Thanks to Brooke and everyone that supports this platform!
...except that slacker Doug, laying around doing pain meds and the like...

Actually it took me awhile to realize that membership numbers and posts per day are not as important as having a steadily growing and progressing community. So no...I have no interest in growing as large as the "other board".

There is no doubt that TRT never wanted a monopoly in the reef board category. We started out as a place for newbies to come and ask dumb questions in a friendly environment. We have evolved into a great place for everyone to hang out and learn...and still ask dumb question in a friendly environment . The mods and admins have helped shape the direction of this site immensely. Thanks to all of them for their hard work!!
Brooke

Amen, Jay.......it's what I've been saying all along....
The board that shall remain nameless is still good resource...I just use the search engine though.....I've learned to keep my mouth shut over there. I spent most of my online time here though and am very grateful to have found this place....
TRT ROCKS!! Thanks Brooke, Jon and everyone else....

Where else can you get the entertainment value that the J Crew Provides or the mind-blowing dissertations given by TDWyatt and Galleon? Where can you find a board that has someone who indirectly works for NOAA like Spanky?, Not to mention, how could I forget, that morning rabble rouser always out to give you a hug and a smile to start your day off Cath or the staunch activist that is Alice.
When you find a good board like this it is quality not quantity. The camaraderie here is second to none and I am proud to be a member of TRT. (America the Beautiful being hummed in the background)

All I can say is that when I was online looking for info on reef keeping, I came across TRT first. . . I never felt the need to go anywhere else because everyone here is so nice and helpful (not to mention entertaining )

Please don't allow TRT to get anywhere near as big and out of control as "the board that shall remain nameless". I like some of the information on the other boards, but to get truely usefiul information in a timely manner, this is the only place. The "family" feel is great and I hope it stays that way.
Jay - Just post a really dumb question about how many tangs you can fit in a 30 gallon tank on that site and see how many flames you get. I guarantee you don't make it to page 6 for at least a month.

GREAT idea.. actually i'm gonna go over there and post about how wonderful the morning show wasa few weeks ago. my daughter and i have wanted to havea salt water tank for so long. and thanks to the show we now have one. but i wanted something big, so i got a 20 gallon tank instead of the 5. but currently my two clowns, blue tang, starfish, seahorse, porcupine puffer, and cleaner shrimp are doing wonderful

oh yeah, i found trt before any of the others as well. then i stumbled along the others and walked away with a bad taste after reading only a few threads.
when i first joined trt, i was only reading threads for a few hours, then when i returned i had about ten welcome to trt's and i hadn't even posted yet.
i'll always prefer the small town feel over the bustling city...well online anyway but i couldnt LIVE in a small town

The serious flamers always are looking in there.
Wait a minute... that last line didn't sound quite right...
