Reeftank Lingo Index/Dictionary?

Maybe we could have something like that?

Not sure how it would be done, but i noticed that sometimes when i read posts about the more technical side of reefing (spesifically the mechanical do-dads) i tend to glaze over because i don't really understand the basics of what is being discussed... such as lighting...

i don't really know what PAR value is tho i think it has somethign to do with distance from light source and how the light fades as it gets further away.... and then stuff like what Saltcrepette asked today what the difference in the *thousand K* (10,000K20,000K2,600K etc) numbers are, also a description of spectrums of bulbs (which has what spectrum and define the "T" designations), what the benefits are, what corals like what....what exactly actinic does, desirable parameters for varying tank occupants...stuff like that.

I don't know if it is beyond the scope of this website or if it might be way too complex to work, but it would sure be nice to be able to read a post about light and someone says something about "PAR" i could just go look it up and get a definition right here without having to look it up elsewhere.

Would it work?

ib I think it's a great idea. I'm light dumb with the best of them.

Let's see what we can conjure up from Doug. I think he has all that in the archives already.

Ok try this. Go to the Archives (on the main forum page), then Equipment, Startup, and Education forum, then go to the Lighting Archive there.

I figured Doug had this under control and sure 'nuf there it is.
