Poll Lifespan

Any chance of giving polls a lifespan so that they can die a dignified death? It seems that any and every poll that has ever been created in GRD was voted in today. Some of them 5+ years old.

I think theres an option when you create them to set a time limit or let them go on forever.

There is one. It was a poll from 2002 asking what the discussion should be on. Someone voted on it today......

Edit: Another one:

I think mods or admins should have the option of closing a thread to votes or posts if it is a couple of years old. I saw polls w/ 0 comments on them todya and thought they were new only to see it was from 2002. I was wondering why t5 lights were not an option

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

I did some checking and the problem isn't as bad as it may seem. A few have been dug up from the grave, but it hasn't been a huge problem.

I'm going to close off the old ones anyway.

Yes you can set them up for 365 days. I think polls you be no more than 30 days. Survey let say of protein skimmer or other equipment coud be longer to inform new commers and new aquarists. So their could 2 kinds of polls; one ex what kind of fish for my tank) thats a month at best, and the survey ex: ( The best protein skimmer 15 choices...) could be useful for the year.

The polls have lifespans now. One example of a limited poll are the monthly photo contests. They have a "Death date" when you can't vote anymore. Leaving polls open indefinitely doesn't do anything to inform the newcomer. They can still read the thread, they just can't vote anymore. And skimmers have changed so much that what was "the best" 2 years ago may/may not be the best anymore.

The main issue is that when someone votes in a poll, even if they don't post in the thread, it moves the thread back to the top - bumping it - and it gets frustrating to weed through them to find "current" threads.

The limited poll option is set by the poll starter when they create the poll

Maybe they should remove the indefinite lifespan and have a max life span. Some polls should be dead and they keep getting brought back from the dead

We've asked the person reviving the old polls to stop and we've put timeouts on them as well. Time to move on.
