Disappearing pics

Sometimes in info searches come across older posts (not oldest archives) that used to have pics in them. they now show up blank.
i don't know if this is an issue with the forum or not.
most recent new thread is one with Skilletfan's pics in it, i did see the pics the day they were posted (i'm pretty sure!), but no longer.

some posts contain pics where the poster removed it from their host (like photobucket will put a 'image moved etc' graphic up) or sometimes the link will be broken and i see a little red x i understand that is not anything to do with the board.

But the ones i am asking about are just blank. no indication of a photo at all, the only way to know there was a pic there is because people have commented on it when it was there or the OP said" Here's a pic: ".

is it an issue with my computer, or is it something the forum does after a while to save space? Like the way some of the really old archives have no avatars or sig lines in them.

depends on where there housed. can you provide a link for an example. If it's a picture that's hosted at TRT, there may be an issue. But if it's a third party picture host, such as photobucket, the user likely deleted the pictures and there's no way for us to recover them.

duh, i forget about it until i ran across it again.... my current example that i just came across... VWD's Blog.... no pics in the first bunch of posts. can anyone else see 'em?

could you post a link to the page? i am betting that they were posted on a third party site and the addy has changed.

as before, i see nothing, just text... not even a red x also no thumbnail or links, not even a big blank space (that is why i thought it might be a board pruning thing)...
when i move stuff in my photobucket account, it will have an image that states that the pic has been moved or deleted, so i don't know if it is a thing with my computer or not...

the first post you linked to i have no idea where the pics went. i looked at the code for the page and there was absolutely no references to pics anywhere.

the other three links there were listings for the pics, but they were apparently hosted on http://www.antiquecompany.com/NNN001.JPG, which seems to be defunct now. so these are missing because Vince did not host the pics on TRT and now the links are gone.

boy, do i wish i could force everyone to only post pics if they were hosted on here. i HATE seeing empty spots where there should be pics.

I have to admit I did along time ago host on my website and they are gone now, But I also hosted many here that are gone now, They got lost during the upgrades last year,

sorry Vince, i did not mean it as bad as it came out. i was just trying to trace the pics. i know way back when during the initial software/server upgrade back in like 2004 or so. almost all of the pic links were lost. i was hoping that that was not occurring again.

i just wish everyone would not post their pics on TRT. everybody complains that it is so difficult/time consuming to do, yet these same people complain that there are pics missing from older threads. argh. i was not trying to pick on you, though it can be fun sometimes.

I couldn't disagree more. Yes, its one or two more steps to put them on TRT but having the images on TRT makes it easier to make sure the thread stays intact in the future. If the images are not on TRT, and an image gets removed, theres nothing TRT can do. If the images are on TRT, then there is a chance of hunting it down and getting the image to show back up and not have broken pages because of missing images.

i want everyone to post their pics on TRT.

i'm going to try and post my stuff to the gallery from now on. i just got used to using photobucket, i could load a whole memory stick at a time and then sort them out... and i am just more used to the process, but i'll try and use our gallery
