When replacing Mh bulbs...

DON"T DO ANYTHING WITH THEM UNTIL THEY HAVE COOLED. We picked up three new bulbs tonight and I was going to replace them. I shut one off and allowed it to cool before removing it. I was not as patient with the two remaining bulbs. I used a towel to remove them so I wouldn't burn myself. That was not very effective since the bulbs were quite efficient at transferring the heat through them. I set the bulbs down on the carpet and installed the new bulbs. I went back to the old bulbs only to discover that they had melted the carpet.

Thankfully the wife is not too upset and called it another lesson learned. In the future, all bulbs will be replaced long after the lights have been shut down.

I don't think that would work in this situation. The dog was outside, and my wife was also doing work on the tank. It would take Johnnie Cochran to get me out of this one.

Hehe. This is pretty much dead center of the carpet. We rotated the rug so a small part of it is under the coffee table. The picture of the evidence was taken after some raking and cutting. (Do you seriously think that I wouldn't try to hide the evidence? I will probably have to do some more scalpal work in the near future. Danielle pretty much said that I am responsible for fixing it.

Yeah, those dang bulbs get hot. Not quite as hot as the exhaust pipe on a motorcycle but hot enough! I've got the "tattoos" to prove it

Find a couple of small, attractive throw rugs and place them around the room...with one covering up the burn mark. Or you could just patch it. Do you have a piece of that carpet left? Or maybe there is carpet on the floor of the closet that matches? Cut a piece from there if so.

Heh... The reef room is tiled - this is the 6x8 area rug under the coffee table, and it was an expensive purchace. (Think SeaSwirls) It looks like he'll be able to camoflauge it by snipping off the burnt ends. The shadow from the coffee table helps a little - it just doesn't look very good.

I'm just glad he didn't put them on the couch. (Although the tile or coffee table would have been fine.)

Man, I do stuff like that all the time. There is a spo on our carpet from pvc cleaner, and that stuff does not come up at all. I went quickly and bought my wife a new rug before she got home!! She loved it, but found out why I bought it rather quickly!!
