Bulb Anemone - Entacmaea quadricolor for the tomato! Sometimes clowns will host a coral if no anenome is present!

Hey Byron,

Please don't get an anemone until you really understand what you're getting into. I don't mean this to sound harsh, but anemones are exceptionally difficult to keep unless you have a very well established reef. Clowns don't need one - they'll pick something else if they have the desire to host with something.

There's a list of great books on this site: http://www.thereeftank.com/books/

Happy reefing,
Danielle

Ditto what Danielle said. My tomato clown loves my colt coral!

in mpo i feel that no one should get an anenomae unless it was propogated in capitivity. they are exceptional diffcult to keep, tend to sting your sessile inverts, and in the wild they are keystone species (any living thing whose removal directly effects the wellbeing of another living thing within habitat in anenomaes case several living things).

so if you must get one make sure it is captive bred and have children to take care of it when your gone because more then likly if you keep it alive it will out live you.

sorry if i offend

I agree with Mrs Smith's recommendation but I just want to set the record straight, you will have to feed the anemone regardless of weather it's hosting a clown.

Yeah my fault for not mentioning that it is not a good idea to get an anenome when as stated they do host with other corals.

I guess I was thinking of myself as I have a BTA for the first time in my 80 gallon reef tank that is over 2 years old!

It looks great now but we will see!

I've had my tomato clown for two years and it adopted a condy anenome which finally got too big for my tank and so I "traded" it for a much smaller condy--the tomato actually takes some of it's flake food to the condy (which it seems to suck down rather quickly)--but I still hand feed it about once a week just to be sure.

In my experience (yes, I've lost two different types of anenomes) the condy's are the easiest to keep (and I'm a semi-beginner--but a very concientious one--I tend to over watch my "kids").

That's my 2 cents--other than to keep on reading....reading...and more reading...OH, yeah and don't forget to read the information posted here on TRT!
