Question

Simple Green info

A couple of months ago I bought some Simple Green. Prolly because I had seen it mentioned here and there on TRT. Well, you know how that goes...surrounded by off-hand remarks (what?? on TRT ) by certain un-named administrators..

Sigh...so what's the deal with Simple Green and how can it be used for reef stuff... What's in it anyway??

Oh boyeee I'm sooo close to my 1900th post! Happy Day!

I've used the stuff before but not in reefing. Supposed to be so safe you can drink it but I'll let someone else try that.

Are you saying I should be leery of a mint julep at spankies?

LOL

Cath, it's a great general cleaner either full strength or cut. Mostly we use it on the boats or any outside gear that's around the water. Works great in a carpet shampooer too!

So far it's been safe inside the buildings to clean up in there too. I wouldn't spray it directly into a tank, but we use it all around. Mixed with a little clorox, it'll cut mildew in a second too. We will use it with clorox to disinfect tanks, just rinse it out thoroughly.

Simple Green rocks!!! It is about the safest cleaner I have found. I would not use it directly with a reef tank, but I know it is safer than most cleaners. As long as it is not sprayed directly into my tank, I don't worry about it. I don't think that it would effectively clean reef equipment since it is generally used for removing grease and stains.

The most effective cleaner that I have found for my reef equipment (mainly plastics) is a 50/50 mix of Muriatic acid and water. Just make sure you are careful and rinse extremely well. It will take care of any organic buildup in your equipment.

Ruh roe...cath's evil twin made her post one reply in duplicate

Thanks Andy! I used it to clean my tub and the bright work today...worked like a charm with a gong brush. Though I did choke a bit when I got too close to the fumes

We used it to clean an oil spot off the garage floor
