shocking revelation !!!!!!!!!!!

ok, what i am about to tell you may come as a shock, you may be surprised, you may even be astounded! but i have jsut come across a shocking revelation that i think all reefers should know about. this is serious business folks, and i think that it is my duty as a fellow trter to pass on this most important information!

i was out in the garage working on moms new canopy so i could take it to her house. I had jsut finished putting on the first coat of polyeurathane. I use a wipe on poly, so i dont have to deal with drips. you just use a cotton cloth and wipe it on.

anyway, you need to know that when using wipe on poly, you WILL get lots of poly soaked through the cloth, and onto your hands. they will get sticky. ( don't worry this isn't the IMPORTANT info, jsut leading into it.)

so the best way to get your hands cleaned afterwards, so you can go about other household duties while the first coat dries, is to use mineral spirits (paint thinner). now, brace yourself here. simply pour a liberal amount of MS on your hands and "wash" vigorously. Then wipe with a clean towel, and repeat, until hands are clean.

Now comes the important news....AFTER cleaning your hands with a liberal amount of paint thinner. do NOT, and i repeat DO NOT, light a cigarette!!!!!!!!!!!!

the subesequent flame is quite large, and very interesting! it also may be enough to cause your seven year old daughter to laugh so hard upon seeing the spectacle of her parent runnign aorund the driveway screaming, that it can cause her to sharply turn her bike and crash into your car!

the good news is, the flames dont last very long

LMAO!!!

Man, Jay, I'm glad you (and your daughter!) are ok. My kids would NEVER let me forget it if I did something like that and the boys would think it was so cool they'd have to take a sneak at trying it out!

I may have to close this thread and move it just to keep "some" TRT members from trying it at home.
Then again the worst offenders and most likely have same access I do, so I wash my hands of this whole flamin affair

wow, what a story. Lucky you did not get burn too much and your 7 yrs old is fine. BTW, wash you hand many times to get rid of the stuff before working inside your tank. Don't think the fish or coral likes paint thinners. Since I play inside the tank a lot, I been wearing gloves when working with paint etc.
