New tang
After standing at my lfs for about an hour talking to the owner and looking over my new Kole tang I finaly decided to purchase it. The tang cost me 28 dollars and I thought it was a pretty good deal for his size. Its around 5 inches long and acclimating to my tank as I write this. I am going to have him acclimating for about 2 hours to get use to a slightly cooler water temp and a little bit higher sg than the lfs was at. I tried to take a picture of him but I will need to borrow my brothers camera again to get a good pic.

Congratulations on your new tang! Sure is a nervous time as they acclimate but also an exciting time as they roam around in their new domain!

I just let the tang into general population and My blue vevlet damsel keeps tail slapping it. Should I get the damsel or or just let it go for now?

Lol I must laugh at my self now. I caught my giant damsel and now have him in a home made isolation tank and he is one p*ssed off fishy. None of the local pet stores want him so it looks like tomorrow he will go to the great porcelin god. But now the tang is doing much better and seems to like his new home.

i jsut dont understand why some people hate damsels so much. mine is really nice. granted i bought a pair and returned one. but the one i kept is really nice. doesnt mess with anyone. barely even acknowledged that i added a new fish today. and they all (damsel, coral beauty, green chromis) seem to school together most of the day..
who knows, maybe he just thinks he's a chromis.
good to hear you got yours though and the tang is happy!

You know the little clown you buy today will bite your hand when it get's old don't you....damsels yuk but the family thinks they are cute and the'll make a movie of them. Oh and seamonkey if retribution is in order add the damsel after the kole has claimed territory and that will be funny for at least a day and then sympathy comes into play. Tangs have even better tail wagging.

now don't do that. put him in the sump or refugium until you find somebody who can take it. i hate see somebody do that to a fish, just because. this is one of the big problems with using damsels to cycle tanks. they are aggressive, they have to be to survive on the reef. please find something else to do with it. this is a throw away society as it is, we do not need to be doing it with living animals.
sorry, i will get off of my soapbox now.

Stepping right up behind you...
i've done stupid things and killed critters by that sheer stupidity- but it really gets to me - the idea that anything is killed just cause its inconvenient...
if nothing else, just do me a favor and keep that fish in the iso untill you find him a new home and don't just chuck it into the terlet...please... *sniffle*
not freaking out on you, but just trying to save a fish from a terrifying demise...imagine being flushed
yanno?

Ty all for your comments. The damsel will remain in iso for atleast another week. The big problem is the damsel is the first inhabitant of this tank. The tank after talking to the guy that gave me it told me that the blue vevlet is 4 years old and has been in the tank since day one. This damsel is very mature and ver territorial. I do feel bad to do this to the damsel but my feelings are 5 dollar damsel vs. 28 dollar tang that will benifit the tank. I have other damsel in the tank but none of them will bother with the tang. They are all about a tenth the size of my vevlet. This fish is huge but the ***** is the tang is actualy bigger. I was thinking about setting up a 7 gallon tank I have just to house the damsel till I can figure out what to do with it but I am stumped on what to do. But on a sad note the tang has now killed one of my eels even though I only had 2 that pisses me off to no end. I have a 13" snowflake and last week got a 7" snowflake and now my 7" is dead. On a side note I have now been bittien 3 times by my eel!

Velvet ****sels are the worst... They grow large quickly and have very bad attitudes...
It sucks they are so cute when they are juvies, but then they grow into big ole nasty bullies... I had one in my 55, which I had moved into the 30 a few days ago... I talked a buddy of mine at work into taking it off my hands... (people love getting free fish)
Jay, there was a post about the Cinnamon being nasty, and that they are... They have the rep of being the most aggressive of clowns...

When I added mine he was not the first, but the last fish I added. He has taken over the tank, undermines my L/R at all times, disturbs ANYTHING not anchored, is a BAS#$%&, harasses the yellow tail ( 1/4 his size) and the PJ, is a BAS#$%&, has other names that can't be told on a family venue, is a BAS#$%&, Looks beautiful, is a BAS#$%&, .......................................
Need I say more about velvet ****sels? I still sill trade him for at least credit before I flush him...
but he is still a BAAS#$%&!!!!!!!

Make room on the soap box, please.
Flushing a healthy animal is unconscionable.
What's even MORE unconsionable is a store(s) that would rather let a customer flush a healthy fish than take it in.
I've got a huge blue damsel that I keep with aggressive puffers and wrasses. I had another Jewel damsel that I kept with triggers - and the guy that BOUGHT him from me has a huge Lunare Wrasse, a huge Yellow Tang, a huge porcupine puffer, so the Jewel fit in like a glove, into his 125. Both the blue and the jewel were trade-ins. I usually don't buy damsels for the shop - I just take in unwanted ones that were bought elsewhere. I occasionally buy a few from wholesale if I run out - there are some people who INSIST on using damsels to cycle, despite my advise to use live rock....
There is an appropriate home for every fish.
