Metal Halides Cause cancer

I read a post on another board where this guy said he has done some reading and studies show that prolonged exposure to MH lights can cause cancer? is this true????

Since MH lights tend to produce lots of UVA and UVB its possible, depending on the bulb type, most of the bulbs used have some form of UV filtering glass incorporated into their design, so personally I wouldn't worry unless maybe you have a coral farming setup using a lot of hi wattage lights.
Any other takers ?

I've found that I get a more even, longer lasting tan if I wear at least a #4.

Yeah...

So does exposure to sunlight. Just keep it in moderation. Most of the light does better (ESPECIALLY at the price of the bulbs) when it is kept inside the tank anyway (so build a complete hood), and the water and vertical glass filter most of the harmful rays out of the spectrum that is emitted through the glass of the tank. Enclose the hood, and as yo' Momma said, ..."Don't stare at the sun..."

Well gee I was going to quite smoking but if my lights are going to kill me anyway I might as well just keep on.

My reasoning,,,,eat rice cakes, be a health nut ,,compete in Iron-Man's, stay out of the sun,,don't smoke/drink,,,,:

GET RUN OVER BY A DUMP TRUCK TOMORROW

when i go, i want it to be with pizza on my breath, a beer in my hand, and the other in my tank,,,,

sorry , but i've seen too many people/friends leave this "rock" b4 it was their 'time" to worry too much about a "perfect" lifestyle,

in my life , i was exposed to many things that are now considered "unsafe" (enviromental, chemical, some illegal, some legal,) i consider myself lucky to have survived so far,

but i figure ,a Mack truck, or a icy road at 65 MPH (or drunk/impared driver) could take me out next time .

i quess i'd rather be happy than "healthy"
i work with 138,000 volts of electricity, but my tank scares me the most.
sorry for the side-trip tangent, just my two cents,,,

no one ought to cry , or be sad, at a 85 yr old's funeral ,
looks like a good run to me.

AMEN, NUFF SAID.

Although I realize that we should avoid the things that are dangerous to us in our long-term, the lighting issue is no worse than our sun, and for that matter, any energy source can be detremental to us when overdone...

Xrays...

Sunlight...

next door neighbor's comments on the current political situation in the Senate...

Fire... ... you get the picture.

Speaking of lighting things up...

Last night I had the lids up on the tank doing some maintenance (or just hands in the tank) Well, I took the dogs out in the back yard to run them a little. The tank room faces the back yard by the way, well my neighbors peaks over the fence and asks to speak to me. I had just moved to the new house in August so he doesn't know me too well. He asks if I am growing something in my house!! I knew what he was getting at so I went on about great growth and all, then finally explained it was just my tank. We had a good laugh about it!

What was this thread about again???
