Exclamation

Fan dropped temp 6 degrees !!

My MH raised my temp so I put a clip on fan on it I only run it on low.
I dont have it on a timer I run my temp at 78.
I forgot to shut the fan off last night & it lowered my temp to 72
w/ 2 heaters on ( icant believe it )
How slowly do I need to raise the temp ?
Is that low enough to hurt anything?

Take a look around. Your eyes are going to be the best guess as to whether anything took a hit. I doubt it though. Evaporative cooling is fairly slow. Likewise, raise the temperature very slowly and carefully, and start raising it ASAP.

i tell you from experience (read 3 day ice storm without power) that a reef tank can handle temps near 60 without to much baddness happening. i would raise it as slowly as you can, but i do not think it would be a crisis if it were to go up to the 78 normal temp in a couple of hours.

It feels like a monday !!
It just keeps getting better at least I checked the temp this morning !
The thing is I was so shocked to see the temp drop I forgot that I was filling the tank w/ top off water & left it on I lowered my salinity from1.0235 to 1.0225
Im just going to let it evap out.

Do you have the MH on timer? You can get the heavy duty appliance timers fairly cheap , plug lights and fan into power bar and go thru timer theat way fan goes off with lights,
Also I always set heater just below the hi temp point with all lights and stuff running

Hello,
The way I see it is this, for example, say your tank gets to 80 degrees at the end of the day with the lights on, then set your heater right at 80 degrees, or just below.. then when the lights go out, and the fan turns off, the water won't cool down more than that.

Did that make sense?

3 hrs is the longest I have left them on so far
then i bought the fan and the temp actually went down w/ the fan & lights on .
I had the fan pointing at the water too much.
