Anyone Ever Encountered This...

OK, I purchased a pair of small clown fishes yesterday and have(not sure which "breed") encountered a new issue--they are so small that they have both been sucked into the intake for the wet/dry. I rescued one out of the intake box this am and found the other in the tray below (both are fine...but, I'm sure they're thinking these new digs aren't the best!). While I did think about this beforehand in regards to a powerhead (which my snails for some reason love to head for)--I unplugged the powerhead until I could figure out a cover for it, just didn't think they were small enough to fit through the slats on the intake box!)

In a desperate move (and no coffee at 6:30a this morning) I cut up my laundry/lingerie bag and placed a portion over the sponge that siphons the water before it goes to the bottom chamber--I later realized that I probably could have cut up a pair of pantyhose...no big deal.

Anyway...anyone have any advise as to how to keep this from happening and any ideas on what I can "tie" onto the powerhead to keep the little guys from getting into it? Would the pantyhose/kneehigh idea work?

You learn something new/different all the time...

Go to a hardware store or home center and buy some gutter guard. It is a plastic mesh that is used to keep leaves out of gutters. It can be cut to size and then attached with nylon cable ties. A roll costs about $5. Bob

yep, used to happen to me all the time with my firefish. the hose thing works great. just make sure you clean it very often so that it does not get clogged. i have also used the plastic mosquito netting. i like this better because it has bigger holes so less of a clogging issue.
