To Nuke or Not to Nuke

Okay...I've got the hypo & pickling lime and am ready do some damage to the aptasia population in my tank. Quick question, do I nuke the solution in the microwave to warm it up or serve it straight up?

How exciting...I'm finally going to be rid of them. Next step catch the &$%# psuedo & get some pepps to keep them under control.

I nuke some hot water and then add it to the pickling lime that I put in the syringe...I tried putting the pickling lime and the water and then nuking it but it would run out the syringe...Good luck.

I just serve it straight up, with a twist of lime.

Actually, I think I used tank water last time, so it was already up to temp.

Happy shootin'!

I have tried nukin it I have tried cold water I have tried tank water and really as long as you get them in the tubular part of the aptasia they will go PTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT and die. Believe me there is no greater satifaction than sittin back and saying Ahhhh I killed all those little bast***s. I wouldnt so them all at once mabe a patch or two wait a day and blast some more. I also had good luck puting the smaller pieces in a bowl of tank water with a light and wait till they poke out big and BANG Shoot them. Oh I enjoy that too much huh hehehhe

Cool thanks guys! I didn't want to create any noxious fumes from this experiment so thought I'd check first. My high school Chemistry class was after lunch so I don't remember much of it.

I was thinking of video taping the execution of some of the larger ones (I have some that are at least 2 inches in my refug) & trying to put it in a midi file for everyone to enjoy.

Hi Don;

Aiptasia are nasty, fast-spreading, coral stinging anemones. Here's a pic:

Don , pickling lime is what is used to make cucumbers ---pickles, mostly found around the pickle season,around me it's in the stores 24/7. the higher tech folks could give you the real name of it , but i just got off work , and too darn tired/lazy to read the can. along the lines of Kalk, something about it is different,,,

aiptasia!!!

Thought I had them all licked a while back..some just popped up again...I terminated with extreme prejudice!

I use white vinegar in a syringe...works great..I never use to much..through trail and error I find 1 ml injected into the body kills them....

excellent.

Cheers,
Rob
