new rock help!!!
I just started to cycle my 35 gallon hex with about 30lbs of live rock, cured, and some ruble rock in my 40 gallon sump with refugium. I got some rubble that the lfs said was in another persons tank. I got it home and dumped it in my sump and little anenomes are all over the rock, and they look exactly like aptasia pictures on this board
What should i do, remove the rock, aptasia only, fw dip, sugestions??? will my brand new tank be doomed from the start?
thanks
mike

more info you might need to know.
the refug is designed to overflow into the sump, and then the water has to flow through my mak4 pump to return to the main tank. will this pump chop up any free floaters?
thanks

Mike no big problem bud. If the rock is easy to remove just take it out and scape off the aptasia, then put it back in. old rock, new rock, cured of uncured ...nothing can be safe from aptasia.
it will survive

You can also take a syringe and make up a kalk paste and dose the apstaisia with the kalk paste. Or you can also try some peppermint shrimp...they will sometimes eat the apstaisia....

They don't spread *that* fast, it's not a magic aiptasia spore ;-). Just zap them with kalk or get a peppermint shrimp...
They aren't the end of the world, just a minor annoyance ;-).

i am still cycling my tank right now, nitrITEs are still through the roof ! NitrATEs are starting to come up now so the cycle is nearing completion, can a pepermint shrimp survive these conditions? The rubble was free from my LFS so i simply removed that particular piece that had approx 10 anenome on it, so now that i know that they dont spread magically fast i think ill be ok.
thanks all for the info
later

You're almost ready for a shrimp. Meanwhile don't worry too much about it. Aiptasia is annoying, but it won't actually kill anything or screw up your tank forever.

HeHe, as your tank matures you will see more and more cool things to look at. I've used peppermint shrimps, they work well, but can be somewhat destructive to other life forms, like little tubeworms. I love little tubeworms so I removed the peppermint shrimp. I have had several more aptasias show up, unannounced and used superglue gel to glue them into there niches. This has not failed me yet. You can even glue under water with superglue, just get the little tubes of it, once salt water gets into it, it's no good. So find as many as possible and glue them in there holes, then discard the rest of the glue.
