Need an ID

I was checking out the tank looking for a good picture, and ran across this guy. I've never seen him before, which is strange since he's an inch to 1/2" across. I did not see him when I had the tank toren apart for the move in August. I did not buy him, so I assume he hitch-hiked in with some live rock.

Any ideas what it might be?

Thanks,
Kris

Uh-oh, looks like it's time for a bigger tank. Won't the minister of finances be pleased. . .

I'm a big man and if it scares me, it's time for it to go!! There are so many species of crabs that hitch hike on LR and the general rule is to get rid of them before they cause damage! JMO

Now, I guess, comes the hard part. Trying to catch him without tearing the tank apart. Maybe I can just wait until we move again . . .

Anybody know the real name of Crabzilla or what they most enjoy munching on?

Kris

I once had a crabzilla in my tank that came as hitch hiker in LR.
I found him munching on a small yellow tang I had bought recently. I would suspect any meaty bait you use should work.
I remember a thread where they talked about traps for crabs, like a plastic bottle or cup with some bait in it. They will find a way to get in but they won't be able to climb out...

I had a "cool" crab in my tank (I think the hermies got him though) The area around his hole was the only place in my tank that had no algae (except coraline) But then I found it dead... didn't look like the pix though...

Virtually all crabs are omnivores, even the supposedly herbivorous ones.

That makes them potentially suspect.
They are all the spawn of the Devil and must be killed.
Killed!! Killed!! Kiiiiiiiiilllllllllllllleeedddddd!!!!!!!!

Wow, Horge. Pretty strong feelings there. Are you sure there really that bad? Sides, there kinda cute and keep the snail population under control. It's nice to see something in the tank that keeps me spending money. And, only once did I catch them eating a fire shrimp. . .

I just found a crab in my tank. It must have been there months hiding in one the caves in the live rock. He looks very similiar to the one in the first picture. And no, he is not the one attacking the village, if he was I probably wouldn't be writing this right now. Anyway, just curious if you ID him and should I be worried.
