Ted's 10 Gal. Reef

OK,

Here is what I have right now.

Equipment:
-10 gal AGA tank on a really cool stand that I got from ubid.com for $39.
-CPR BakPak 2 skimmer, bio media and sponge bubble trap removed.
-Aquarium Systems VisiTherm 200W Heater (in the bio media chamber of the skimmer right now).
-1 Hamilton 175W Metal Halide Pendant with 10,000K bulb on a timer for a twelve hour photoperiod.
-Aquarium Systems FasTest ammoina, nitrite, nitrate, pH, and KH test kits.
-LaMotte calcium test kit.

Water Parameters:
pH = 8.4
Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate = 0
KH = 3.5 meq/l
Calcium is unknown (I need a refill for my test kit)
Temperature = 78-80F
Specific Gravity = 1.023

Livestock:
-15 pounds of Fiji LR from LFS (added 10/24/00)
-5 Turbo snails (3 added 11/6/00, 2 more on 1/8/01))
-10 pounds of live sand bought on eBay(added 11/15/2000)
-1 metalic green mushroom rock (added 1/6/01)
-1 finger leather (added 1/8/01)
-1 6-line wrasse (added 1/8/01)
-1 percula clownfish (added 1/8/01)

Everyting is going OK so far. The temp seems stable and the nasty algaes are being kept at bay by the voracious Turbo snails.

More to come soon!

problem

The only thing that i could see as a problem long term is the protein skimmer, depending on how many corals you plan on having depends on whether you should even have a skimmer. If you donot plan on keeping your skimmer you could hold alot more corals and inverts.

That statement seems to be exactly backwards to me? Please explain your theory on this...

Ted your tank looks well thought of. Good luck!

Thatshotsun2 - with a 10 gallon frequent water changes work better than skimming. Highly workable since 5% of 10 gallons is only 2 quarts and replacing 2 quarts bi or tri weekly is not hard.
