Hi Doug,
I have a 180gal tank (not reef ready unfortunately). I have a CPR CS-102(rated at 1400gph) and a CPR CS-150(rated at 1600gph)
overflow boxes. I am using an Aqua-C EV-200 Skimmer (which works VERY well). My pump is a
Dolphin Amp Master 3000(Great pump!!!).
I use the one pump for both the skimmer and tank return. I have ball valves on both exits from the pump. The sump is a converted La Mer Wet/Dry filter (It came with the tank when I bought it used). The lighting is 6/96watt Bright Kits with 4-6700k bulbs and 2-7100k Actinic bulbs from AH Supply. I also have a 13watt "moonlight(blue)" from AH Supply.
I have glass over the water and a wood canopy over that where the lights are mounted. I have installed 4 fans to remove the heat build-up from the lights. I plan to use timers on the lights to "simulate" morning through evening.
I have a dosing pump that I am currently using to add RO/DI water to compensate for evaporation. I will probably use it later of kalkwasser.
The RO/DI unit I bought for the tank is from Aqua FX. I got a Great deal and their CS if beyond reproach.
This is my first reef tank. I have had FW fish for several years and decided to finally "take the plunge". I have always wanted to have a reef tank, but was always afraid to try. When I saw the 180gal. tank set-up come up for sale locally, I couldn't resist. I must say though, it is much more expensive with a large tank (more of everything [LR, bigger pump, more supplies, etc.]).
I am disabled/retired (at 40) and this is (as my Dad says) what keeps me off the street.
I guess that about covers everything. Thanks for the interest. I am sure that I will have many questions in the future. I try to read books, but I can't get all of the answers and their is no substitute for the experience of those I can "talk" to online.
Take care,
Steven
