I would get rid of the canister filter personally. They tend to not do much and over time become a nitrate factory.
I you do not have an overflow I would go with a hang-on skimmer like the Aqua C Remora. I have not heard to much about the CPR Bak-Paks so I cannot comment on those. If you add live rock into your tank and flow (couple Koralia 1s or so) then all you will need is a skimmer. The live rock and flow with do WAY more filtration than the canister filter.
If you want to go with an overflow box and an under-tank sump then I would do something like this:

That is a link to a thread I just explained this system in. It uses an overflow box into a sump with an in-sump skimmer. This is the "optimal" filtration but of course not required. Live rock, flow and a hang-on skimmer will do very well also.
