reeeeffffff tank

Hi!
We've just set up a new reef tank. Last of the live rock hit today. Pics soon to come.

(this is a lovely board, btw).

tank specs:

O-BC29
28lbs cured live rock (LFS)
40 lbs Caribsea Arag-Alive sand
50w heater

previously:
Chamber 1 standard config
Chamber 2 bio balls standard config
RIO 6HF pump in chamber 3
HYDOR-Flo wave maker-- replaces standard output

UPDATED!
Chamber 1-- added purigen bag, removed standard filter
chamber 2-- removed bio balls, modded to add tunze nano skimmer
chamber 3-- removed standard pump and replaced with Rio 6hf; heater in this chamber as well.

We have in the tank now 6 hermit crabs, 3 astrius snails, 3 nassarius snails. they've been with us for about 3 weeks now. the temp and all test levels have been perfect, except for a recent bout of low salinity, which was cured.

yesterday: added blue linkia, a lawnmower blennie, two peppermint shrimp and some LPS (which I haven't figured out what it is yet).

The coral that's been showing up in the tank is awesome. We have some leather coral that is looking like cabage leather and some really lovely purple mushroom coral, which seems to be spreading. There's also something that looks like a little blue haystack sitting in the back near the lights that hasn't grown very much, but i think may be rider sps. Sweet. Killed off a few crappy glass anemones yesterday, too.

Welcome to TRT
Tank looks great!
Just make sure you wait a few months before adding any live stock. Mushrooms are VERY hardy and they may make it but it's 50/50.
What type of lighting do you have?
If you dont have one you may need a skimmer also.

EDIT: These are just my opinions

Just read your blog and see this is your second reef and you are aware of the nitrogen cycle. Sorry, but soo many ppl ejust go to the LFS and buy a set up and think they can stock it the same day

Standard lights for bc29-- haven't changed a thing though Tom's been adamant about metal halide-- we haven't gotten there yet.
here's what the BC29 has for canopy lighting:
1- 36 watt True Actinic 03 Blue Straight Pin
1-36 watt 10,000k Daylight Straight Pin
3-.75 watt lunar Blue-Moon-Glow LED

We're pretty aware of the nitrogen cycle, but of course, i'm still reading everything at hand, while Tom's pretty assured of whazzup.

I'm tickled to pieces about the critters we have, worried about the ones we might have, and!

Honestly...
I just want a starfish!

I agree I don't think a skimmer is required at all for a nano to be successful or a 95g tank either for that matter

Sorry if I came across bad in my first post. I am really a good guy, but I play an ahole in my first post

Oh and I wouldnt add a skimmer while cycling your tank either. I would give it a good 2 months before that is necessary.

Please take Hops advice to heart TRT is a very family friendly place
and we take the mission statement very seriously

I think no one can argue that slow is better. So on that note don’t rush, have fun give the cycle at lest 30 to 40 days. That will give you some time to read and you will see that having the right skimmer is one of the 2 most important things in your setup lights been num. 1 If it’s a REEF. But I can not tell you how important is not to rush. Take it slow and you will see how cool this hobby really is.

oh, goodness! I didn't expect all this! well, i'm glad for so much info... or, well, maybe hints of info?? I'm not looking for advice on skimmers or such at this point; frankly, all I have in my tank at this point is live rock/sand as I'm attempting to achieve/maintain proper environment for additions of livestock when my tank is pure.

however:

Is there something different i should be considering for lighting? I'm not really ready to start making mods like i've seen in any of the other forums (which is why i like it here, seems to be more about the reef than the equipment)...

I've seen some gorgeous photos on this site and I'm willing and ready to put whatever's necessary (including time) into making a lovely reef.

thank you so much for ww here...

what are your plans for the tank? SPS or a softy/ LPS type of tank ?
I kept many LPS and softys under 72w PC in my nano cube
