This is my first ever saltwater tank, (I have had freshwater for over 7 years)and it's been up and running for a few months with little difficulties. I went ahead with a reef first instead of just FO because of the benefits of live rock as a
biological filter, not to mention how fun it is to spend hours and hours just looking at it.
Here is a list of what I have to date:
LIVE STOCK:
- 1 blue (yellow tail) damselfish
- 1 red-legged hermit crab
- 1 brownish hermit crab
- 2 Turbo snails
- 1 astere (sp?) snail
- 2 HUGE bristle worms (came in on live rock) - 1 single brown polyp (another hitchhiker)
- 15 pounds of cycled figi live rock
EQUIPMENT:
- 10 gallon tank
- glass covering
- one inch deep crushed coral gravel
-
Instant Ocean Sea Salt
- Mini-mite Compact floresent light(18 watts altogether)
- regular floresent light (15 watts)
- submersible (sp?) heater
- 1 powerhead (150 gph)
- Millenium 1000 biological filter (90 gph)
- hydrometer
- thermoniter
- ph, ammonia, nitrate test kits
- Frozen and flake foods
I intend to replace the millenium filter with a nice-sized skilter, and buy 3 more mini-mights (and ditch the regular fixture) for a total of 72 watts per gallon. So far this has been the funnest tank I have ever had.
I maintain an online journal on this tank, so go here for more info:
