Okay, so this isn't *quite* reef-related, but more of a practice session for the advancement of my skills.
The reef tank is definitely "my" hobby... but so that my GF doesn't kill me out of boredom while I am maintaining my aquarium, we started a "
hermit crab tank" (dry sand, driftwood, water-dish, you know...). Very cool little 10-gallon tank, with about 6 crabs in it.
This past weekend, we added a few "air plants" and one little bush... the sand is mixed with peat, so it holds enough moisture for the plants.
WELL, the 10-gallon is kinda small... (of course), so we have been throwing around ideas for a "bigger" place for them. I am working on designs, and will post them when I have them drawn up, but basically, a small stand (about 6" high), that will hold a 3'x3' wide, 12" high "terrarium".
My justification? Well, you can't put anything "tall" in a 10-gallon, cause the crabs can crawl out using it. So, make it really wide, and you can put mountains in the middle.
Besides, if I can build this successfully, maybe I am a step closer to being able to build better stuff for my reef
