newbie

Tank Specs:

46 Gallon Bow Front
coralife 36" 96 watt with 50/50 tube
Emperor 280 bio-wheel
8 pounds live rock
3" crushed coral

I am new to this and I decided to go saltwater instead of fresh. I am very happy with the move. I cycled for 6 weeks with yellow tailed damsels and upon the end of cycling I upgraded lighting to the above mentioned and added the live rock. I returned the damsels and added two false percula's. They are a lot of fun. I was told not to add any further clowns because they tend to fight. My goal for the tank is very simple. The max load that I desire is as follows:

2 clowns ( currently in tank). I wish to add:
2 blood fire shrimp
1 red scarlet hermet crab
some turbo snails
1 yellow tang
1 flame or coral beauty angel

My concerns are whether or not the tank is too small for the yellow tang and whether or not I should add a protein skimmer as the only filtration I currently have is the emperor 280 bio-wheel. Also should I add a powerhead or two for circulation? Again I am new to this and I have done an immense amount of reading and listening. I would like some more informantion though.

Parameters:
PH 8.0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 12.5
Ammonia 0
Alk 5.0 meq/L
SG 1.020

Adding powerheads is a good idea. I think the Tang should be place in a large tank.

hey

powerheads are definetly a good idea, they tend to give a lot of flow , and that will be good if you upgrade your lighting later on and keep some hard corals. also i do think the tang should not be in your tank, so dont even consider buying one. i made the same mistake a while back in my 30 gal cube. i bout a tang and a heniochus butterfly, they broke out in ich, the butterfly died, and i returned the tang back to the store. so a tang is definetly a bad idea for such a small tank. oh and would suggest buying a cpr back pak for your tank, i have one on my 30gal and it is working just awsome, i think it will be great on your tank, they cost about $130.00.
