Cool

name, rank, and serial number....

My tank is a 30 gallon. Lighting is 2 55 watt 9375 K power compacts, and 1 30 watt actinic. Filtration is 45 pounds of live rock, 3 inch sand substrate, and 2 power heads. Skimmer is right now a POS but will be upgrading to the bakpak2 when it arrives at the end of the week. The visijet I am currently using does seem to be working off and on as long as I keep it immaculate.

The tank has been up 70 days, has been stable and 0 ammonia or nitrites for 55 of that time. The live work was added in two waves out of a 1500 gallon reef we maintain. I feed every other day, using enriched brine shrimp or prime reef.

I supplement with Reef Vital DNA, and usually I have to add 1/2 ml of iodine to reach acceptable levels. The calcium stays up over 600 ppm with just the weekly water changes of 10%. (yeah, liquid rock)

Temperature 78-80 (**** small tanks) but the ebo seems to be keeping a better stability going since I switched it into the tank instead of a visitherm.

Phosphate tests are the loveliest shade of blue you ever saw but to date the crabs and snails are able to keep up with it no problem.

Corals are a bubble, a plate, pompom xenia, button polyps, yellow polyps, & 10 types of mushrooms, mostly from cuttings.

No coralline algae to speak of yet, just a few spots on some of the rock I've bought the coral pieces on (big urchin in the 1500 gallon keeps it pretty naked but the owner LIKES it *gag*)

Livestock includes 4 blue legged hermits, a sally lightfoot crab, 4 large turbo snails, a sand sifting star, 4 peppermint shrimp, itty bitty brittle stars, and 3 black clown gobies. I intend to add 6 neon gobies, 3 blue 3 yellow but not for a few more weeks.

This is my first reef tank, feel free to tell me where you see holes that I need to deal with.

Thanks for the help in advance : )

Hi Barbie. I was wondering you said the live work was added in two waves of a 1500 gal reef you maintain. So you have rock from work in your 30 gal? You also state that your calcium level is 600ppm? could you tell me what test kit you are using and what alk, and ph you have at this level?

The pH is 8.4 and rock solid, I'm ashamed to say I haven't tested the alk yet but I'm working on a test kit for that. Its a seatest kit. Yes, the rock was out of a work tank. We just substituted some nicer shaped dead rock back into the tank to get it growing critters and bacteria also.
