I think some more picking away at the hair I do find, turkey basting the rock and water changing will help.

What I am referring to a is a filter pad. Here is a picture of the filter pad I am running Swank1975.

It is looking so much better down here in the basement. I assume most of this is a result of the new sand. I would then guess the other successful parts are the use of my UV clarifier (pretty new bulb) and the light control since the basement room has no windows. The only window is in the office around the corner from the living room. The fish seem really happy also.

Got back from our vacation and almost 100% of the hair algae is gone. The tank looks super now. The hippo tank was purcahsed very small a few years ago by the previous tank owner. I'd love to put the fish into a bigger tank but for now the budget won't allow that. The fish seems to be happy and enjoys surfing in the maxijet output from time to time. I only have 3 swimmer fish and one algae blenny so I hope I am keeping the stress levels down.

OK here is my pump
ViaAqua 1300 which is a 370gph pump. I have about 60 gallons of water total so a 10x per hour turn over would want a 600gph pump. I also want to plumb my tank so the return doesn't just return water high over the back but down low in a bar with multiple outlets behind my rock to kinda keep the crap from settling back there like it currently does. Hopefully this will reduce settling back there and keep things cleaner and improve my flow around the whole tank. Thoughts?

Well yesterday I sold my tank. I had broke up with my GF and it was still in her house for the time being. I moved into another place where I could not have the tank. I unloaded it on craigslist and sent it on its way. I hope the new owner does well with it.
